2012 Chevy Camaro Sets Benchmark for Safety

Since the first Chevrolet Camaro based on the Nova compact launched in 1967, the sporty ride has been best known for its cunning handling, sinuous lines, aggressive force, impressive quarter-mile times and screeching halts. Safety, on the other hand, is one attribute, consumers have focused on less. But, Chevrolet isn't convinced they should. As such, they've gone to great lengths to create what is the safest Camaro of all time.

In 2011, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) crash tests are more stringent than ever. Yet, the Camaro proved it offers tank-line protection, enduring each and every category (i.e., front driver, front passenger, side driver, side passenger, rollover and overall) without being docked so much as a percentage of point. Rather, it earned five-out-of-five stars across the board!

Now, there's probably one or two of you out there thinking this achievement is a little lack luster...that other models have also earned a perfect five-star rating. The difference is in the context. While other cars have earned a five-star overall rating from the NHTSA following the organization's adoption of stricter regulations earlier this year;  none other than the new 2012 Camaro has earned a perfect score across ALL six test categories.

To put this into better perspective...

2012 Model Year Vehicles Assessed by the NHTA to Date: 46
Number of Cars Awarded a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating: 14
2012 Model Year Vehicles Awarded a 5-Star Rating in All Crash Test Categories: 1 (the 2012 Chevy Camaro)
