The Chevrolet Equinox is a five-seat crossover SUV. Chevy presents both front-wheel drive as well as on-demand all-wheel drive configuration for all 2009 Equinox models. Chevy Equinox comes in four models: LS, LT, LTZ, and Sport. The LT comes in two sub-trims: 1LT and 2LT, while all other models are available in a single trim. Power train and performance: |
The LS, LT, and LTZ models of the 2009 Equinox are equipped with a standard 3.4-liter V6 engine that generates 185 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 210 pound-feet of torque at 3800 rpm. However, the Sport model is powered by a standard 3.6-liter V6 engine producing 264 horsepower at 6500 rpm and 250 pound-feet of torque at 2300 rpm. The powerful 3.6-liter dual overhead cam engine of the Sports model features variable valve timing and is teamed to a standard six-speed automatic and electronically controlled transmission. The 3.4-liter engine in the LS, LT, and LTZ models are available with a standard five-speed automatic electronically controlled transmission. |
Build and Style |
The 2009 Chevrolet Equinox is a midsize SUV that accommodates as many as five passengers. AM/FM stereo with MP3-compatible CD player, Radio Data System (RDS), and auxiliary audio input jack are standard for all 2009 Equinox models except LTZ. The Equinox’s flat-folding front passenger seat and a 60/40-split-folding rear seat that slides fore/aft and reclines offer plenty of head and legroom. A roof rack is standard on all trims except the Sport. The cargo area expands from 35 to 69 cubic feet on folding seats. The LS comes with a standard 16-inch cast-aluminum wheel while the LT and LTZ models have 17-inch aluminum wheels. The performance oriented Sports model is equipped with an 18-inch flangeless polished, machined forged-aluminum wheel. |
Safety features |
The 2009 Equinox boasts of a long list of standard safety features. All four Equinox models offer safety devices that include four-wheel antilock disc brakes; electronic stability control system with traction control; full-length head curtain airbags; tire pressure monitoring system; and OnStar. Some of the safety features that have been designed to help protect occupants in the event of a crash include a safety cage and crush zones. The Equinox also offers the LATCH system for child safety seats.
The 2009 Equinox has earned the highest possible rank, five-star, in frontal and side-impact crash safety ratings by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In addition, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has awarded the highest-possible "Good" rating to the Equinox in the offset crash testing.
