Overview

The 2009 Chevrolet Express Cargo Van is a carryover from 2008 and is a 3- or 4-door, full size van, available in 6 trims, ranging from the 1500 Regular Wheelbase RWD to the 3500 Extended Wheelbase RWD. It has a seating capacity for up to two passengers along with impressive cargo capability that defies any negative stereotypes associated with cargo vans.

Engine and Performance

The 2009 Chevy Express Cargo Van 1500 RWD operates on a 6-cylinder, 4.3L Vortec engine with a 4-speed automatic transmission that is electronically controlled. This Van can achieve up to 195 horsepower at 4600 rpm and 260 lb-ft. of torque at 2800 rpm. The 1500 Regular Wheelbase AWD has a standard Vortec 5.3-liter, V8 engine that produces 301 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 325 lb-ft. of torque at 4500 rpm. A Vortec 5.3L FlexFuel V8 engine is also available on the 1500 model, which can operate on either gasoline or E85 or a combination of both. The 2500 and 3500 extended have been equipped with a 4.8L V8 engine that produces 279 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 294 lb-ft. of torque at 4500 rpm and 258 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 294 lb.-ft. of torque at 4500 rpm, respectively.

Build and styling

The 2009 Chevrolet Express Cargo Van is equipped with a number of standard and optional features. A Driver Information Center that includes fuel range, average speed, oil life, tire pressure monitoring, fuel used, ice warning, engine hours, average fuel economy, tachometer, and maintenance reminders keeps the driver informed.

An available Cargo Access Package facilitates quick, easy access to tools and cargo. The package includes three exterior, remote-release side-access panels with remote keyless entry plus a Convenience Package with power windows and door locks. Chevy Express Cargo also gets GM segment-exclusive swing-out driver-side doors that provide quick and easy access to equipment, tools and cargo and are optional on regular wheelbase models.

Safety features

The 2009 Express Cargo Van offers a wide range of safety measures that include 4-wheel antilock disc brakes; daytime running lights; anti-theft system; air bag for both driver and passengers; and side impact air bags. Tire pressure monitoring system is standard for all trims. However, some optional features such as front passenger side bag delete and heavy duty rear-locking differential are also available depending on the trim of choice.
