Overview

The 2009 Silverado 3500HD is the full-size, one-ton heavy duty pick-up of Chevrolet’s truck line-up. Silverado heavy duty trucks have the reputation of being the strongest, most dependable, and longest lasting trucks on road. The Silverado HD models are the only heavy-duty pickups equipped with independent front suspensions on four-wheel drive units for better ride and steering compared to other trucks. From 2007, the Silverado 3500 gained the suffix HD which reflects its heavy duty capability. Choice of powerful engines, stiffened suspensions, strong frames, and available dual rear wheels, make it a capable workhorse. The 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD continues visually unchanged from 2008, but adds the availability of Bluetooth, XM NavTraffic, and a rearview camera.

Engine and Performance

The 2009 Silverado 3500HD offers a choice of two powerful engines. The standard engine is a 6.0-liter V8, which delivers a thundering 360 hp at 5600 rpm or 322 hp at 4400 rpm for the 3500HD Big Dooley models. The engine is teamed with six-speed automatic transmission. The engine utilizes Variable Valve Timing (VVT) technology for optimum combustion, enhanced low-end torque and high-end power, good fuel mileage, and low-end emissions. A powerful Duramax 6.6-liter, turbo-diesel V8 with 365 hp capacity is also available. The Turbo-diesel engine is mated to an Allison six-speed automatic transmission. Its common rail fuel injection system utilizes advanced electronics and pilot injection to optimize fuel delivery and help reduce emissions and combustion noise. Silverado 3500HD is available with a choice of rear-wheel or four-wheel drive configuration.

Body and Styling

The 2009 Silverado 3500HD is available in a wide array of bed sizes, wheelbases, and cab sizes. Buyers can choose from regular, extended, and crew cab body styles, and three trims levels: WT (Work Truck), LT, and LTZ. All trims feature a tough, muscular design with a prominent gold bow tie emblem at the centre of a bold dual port grille. Standard and optional features include 17-inch wheels; fog lamps; EZ Lift tailgate; rear parking assist; cargo management system; vinyl or cloth 40/20/40 split-bench seats with recliners; leather-appointed power-adjustable front bucket seats; AM/FM stereo with MP3-compatible CD player; DVD entertainment system; manual or automatic climate controls; power windows; rearview camera; power-sliding sunroof; Bluetooth; and more.
